Place the ground beef and white onion in a large saucepan, Cook over medium heat for 4-5 minutes, until the beef is browned and the onions are softened
Pour in the stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce, kidney beans and water, and stir together
Add the chili powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper, and stir again
Bring to a boil then reduce to low heat, cover the pan with a lid and allow to simmer for 15-20 minutes.
Remove from the heat and serve with tortilla chips, top with sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese and slices of onion.
