How to make Eggs in a Nest, this healthy breakfast recipe is super quick and easy and is a great recipe for the kids to get involved in too. Eggs in a nest breakfast is a great idea for a Mother’s Day surprise treat.

Also known as Eggs in a Hole, Toad in a Hole or Eggs in a Basket it is made by cutting a hole in the center of a slice of toast and cooking an egg in the hole.

Traditionally they are cooked in a skillet but if you’re cooking for a crowd then they can be easily cooked in the oven:

Eggs in a Nest Variations

1. Beat the eggs before adding to the hole this is ideal if your kids don’t like the egg yolk or the egg white.

2. Add cheese to either a beaten egg or scatter over the top of a whole egg.

3. Use different shaped cutters to cut out the hole, such as heart shaped for a valentines breakfast or cute bunny shaped cutouts for an Easter breakfast.

4. Bake in the oven on a baking sheet.

INGREDIENTS  

3 Slices Bread

2 Eggs

3 tsp Butter

Salt and Pepper (optional)

Fresh Herbs (optional)

Eggs in a nest INSTRUCTIONS 

1. Preheat the skillet on a medium heat.

2. Butter both sides of each slice of bread. Cut a square out of the center of the slices of bread.

3. Cut a square out of the center of the slices of bread.

4. Place the buttered bread slices in the skillet, cook on one side until browned and flip over.

5. Break an egg into each hole of the bread slice.

6. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until cooked to your preference.

7. Season with salt and pepper, and garnish with fresh herbs (optional)

8. If there is enough space, place the cutouts in the skillet too or cook separately, serve them on the side with butter or a scoop of jam.
