What are cheese curds?
Cheese curds are curdled milk that is usually used to make cheese. They are made by heating milk until it thickens and forms clumps and then a coagulant such as rennet is stirred in.
They are then formed into balls and allowed to rest before being cut into small pieces, they are then heated again creating a cheese that is firm and has a smooth, creamy texture.
Serve with a dipping sauce, and enjoy as a snack, appetizer, or main dish.

FRIDGE: Place in an airtight container and store for up to 3-5 days.
REHEATING:
OVEN: Place in an ovenproof dish and cover, cook at 350F/180C for 10-15 minutes
MICROWAVE: Place in a microwave dish and cook on full power for 1-2 minutes.
Fried Cheese Curds Recipe
INGREDIENTS
2 lbs Cheese Curds
1 1/2 Cups Buttermilk
1 1/2 Cups Flour
1 tsp Baking Soda
2 tsp Garlic Salt
1 Egg
1 1/2 quarts Canola Oil
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Heat oil to 375F/190C
2. Whisk together buttermilk, flour, baking soda, garlic, salt, and egg until smooth.
3. Coat the cheese curds with batter.
4, Add the batter covered cheese curds into the oil.
5. Cook for a few seconds, until golden brown.
6. Remove from the pan and drain on a paper towel.
- Heat 1-2 inches of oil to 375 degrees F in a large cast iron skillet or dutch oven. A thermometer helps to monitor the oil so it doesn’t get too hot or too cold.
- Whisk the flour, buttermilk, baking soda, garlic, salt, and egg until it makes a smooth batter.
- Dip the cheese curds in the batter a few at a time to coat, then add them to the hot oil. Be careful not to overcrowd the pan or the oil temperature will drop.
- Fry the cheese curds until golden brown, turning them partway through. Transfer the fried cheese curds with a slotted spoon to a wire rack set over a baking dish to drain. Repeat with remaining cheese curds.
