Healthy Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

This healthy homemade teriyaki sauce recipe produces a sweet and tangy sticky sauce.

Teriyaki sauce originated in Japan, and the name actually refers to a method of cooking and combines the words “teri” that means luster and “yaki” that means grilled or broiled.

This sauce goes well with almost any meat or fish such as chicken, beef, and pork, salmon and tuna and a great dipping sauce for chicken wings, shrimp, steak and tofu. It can be a great accompaniment to rice, noodles and vegetables.

FRIDGE: Place in an airtight container and store in the fridge for up to 14 days.

FREEZER: Place in an airtight container or divide into an ice cube tray for smaller portions, and store in the freezer for up to 6 months.

REHEATING: Healthy Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

OVEN: Place in an ovenproof dish and cover, cook at 350F/180C for 10 minutes

MICROWAVE: Place in a microwave dish and cook on full power for 1 minute.

Healthy Homemade Teriyaki Sauce RECIPE

INGREDIENTS  

1/2 Cup Soy Sauce

1/4 Cup Brown Sugar

1 1/2 tsp Ginger (minced)

1 tsp Garlic (minced)

1 Tbsp Honey

1 Tbsp Sesame Oil

3 Tbsp Mirin

3 Tbsp Corn Starch

1/4 Cup Water (cold)

INSTRUCTIONS 

1. Place all the ingredients in the saucepan and mix well until fully combined.

2. Bring to the boil over a medium heat, once boiled reduce to a low heat and lightly simmer for 3-4 minutes until thickened.

3. Remove from the heat and use immediately or allow to cool and store for later.

4. If storing, pour into an airtight jar and refrigerate.
