A super easy Macaroni and Beef Recipe, the macaroni is cooked with ground beef and smooth a cheese sauce, with a crunchy breadcrumb topping. Amazingly quick and easy to make as well as being super flexible.
Ready in only 30 minutes, it is a great comfort food that isn’t too hot or spicy and is perfect for a weeknight dinner. It is also a very flexible recipe and can be changed up with a variety of ingredients, so you can make use of items you have in your store cupboard.
Use a broiler or a grill to make it quicker, but you can still get the same results if it is cooked in the oven.
Also, you can easily double the recipe so you have enough for leftovers, or freeze some for another day.
The list is endless, and you could easily have a different variation for every day of the week, so go ahead and try some of these in any combination, or even all at once if you’re really hungry.
FRIDGE: Place in an airtight container and store for up to 2-3 days.
FREEZER: Place in an airtight container and store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
STOVETOP: Place in a saucepan, and heat on medium heat for 4-5 minutes.
OVEN: Place in an ovenproof dish and cover, cook at 350F/180C for 10-15 minutes
MICROWAVE: Place in a microwave-safe dish and cook on full power for 1-2 minutes.
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1 1/2 lb Ground Beef
1 teaspoon Paprika
1 teaspoon Oregano
½ teaspoon Chili Flakes
2 Cups Elbow Macaroni
4 Tablespoons Butter
3 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 1/2 Cups Milk
2 Cups Cheddar Cheese (shredded)
Salt and black pepper to taste
Topping
1 Cup Cheese (shredded)
1 Cup Bread Crumbs
1/4 Cup Parmesan (shredded)
1/2 teaspoon Oregano
2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
1. Cook the macaroni following the package instructions, until softened (al-dente). Drain, and set aside.
2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or fry pan. then add the ground beef. Cook on high heat until browned, approximately 7-8 minutes.
3. Next add the paprika, oregano, and chili flakes, mix well and cook for a further 2-3 minutes. Then remove the meat and set aside.
4. In the same skillet, add the butter and melt over medium heat, then stir in the flour and cook on low heat for 1-2 minutes.
5. Slowly add the milk stirring constantly, and cook on low to medium heat for 3-4 minutes until the sauce is thick and smooth. Add a pinch of salt and black pepper to taste and stir in.
6. Stir in the cheddar cheese and stir until all the cheese is melted.
7. Add the drained macaroni and the ground beef to the cheese sauce and stir well until all the macaroni is covered.
8. To make the topping, mix the breadcrumbs, shredded parmesan, oregano, and olive oil together in a mixing bowl, then sprinkle the mixture evenly over the top of the macaroni.
9. Place under a broiler or grill for 3-6 minutes until toasted and brown.
10. Serve with crusty bread or a side of green salad.
